SENGAUS Stella Elizabeth

SENGAUS, Stella Elizabeth
March 24, 1930 - March 5, 2012

Stella Elizabeth Sengaus of Rumsey, AB passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2012 in Three Hills, AB. “Granny” will be lovingly remembered by her family: sons David (Donna), Dan (Louisa), and Rick. Grandchildren Dustin (Andrea), Devon (Nadine), Travis and Angela, and a great grandson Jacob. She is also survived by her sister Doris Potter, sisters-in-law Lillian Sjogren, Alice Sjogren and Jeanne Sengaus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Ivar and Inez Sjogren, her brothers Allan and Charles and her beloved husband Willie Sengaus in 2003. Mom was born on the family farm north of Rumsey on March 24, 1930, the third of four children. She attended Thompson school and as a young woman worked for Albert and Anne McNaughton and at AGT in Stettler, AB. She then met the love of her life, Willie Sengaus and they were married on July 9, 1951 and shared over 51 years together, raising their family and enjoying their grandchildren. Their home was a gathering spot for friends and family for any occasion. Mom was an avid and competitive curler and rarely missed a bonspiel in the area. Even in her later years, she always watched the Scotties and the Brier on TV and has several notebooks full of stats and other curling trivia. Mom enjoyed various crafts and taught many classes thru Further Education or in her home -- paper tole, beadwork, silk dyeing etc. She macramed hundreds of lawn chairs and did silk floral arrangements for countless weddings. Mom also had an exceptionally “green thumb” -- her garden was a labour of love year after year. Upon retiring from gardening, all effort and energy was put forth into her flowers and yard -- she especially had a love for begonias and roses -- and her flower beds and lawns were kept in meticulous order. Upon leaving the farm in 2010, she still tended to various pots on her balcony at the Chateau in Three Hills. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the Rumsey Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Three Hills Palliative Care. Kneehill Funeral Services in charge of arrangements. 1-403-442-2123.
