GOUGE John Wilson

Gouge John Wilson
July 1, 1926 - March 5, 2012

John Wilson Gouge passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 5, 2012.  John was predeceased by his brother Jesse and is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Pat,  beloved sister Anne, son Bill, daughters Patsy (Cal), Joan (John), grandchildren Sam (Ayala), Peter (Kathy), Melissa, Jill and Todd and great grandchildren Noah, Kiara, Madison and Reide.  He will also be dearly missed by sister-in-law Joan, brother-in-law Bill (Marilyn), and nieces and nephews Michael, Charlie, Cathy, Ted, Maureen, Dana-Jean, Richard, John and Neil.  John first knew Pat in Drumheller, Alberta where he was born.  They later reunited at UBC, where he graduated in Chemical Engineering.  John served in the Canadian Army and had a vibrant working career, working for Cominco (in Trail and Montreal), the BC Research Council, Stanford Research, BC Hydro and McMillan Bloedel. John was a fantastic family man and loyal friend, full of fun and enthusiasm and unwaveringly supportive.  He was an avid boater and fisherman and the family spent many years afloat.  His years volunteering at church and in the community led him to being honored with one of the 75 Achiever’s Awards in West Vancouver in 1988.  John will be profoundly missed by the numerous people whose lives he touched.  The family is very grateful to Dr. Robert Scott and the outstanding staff at Evergreen Care Home.  A memorial service was held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 885 22nd Street, West Vancouver, B.C. on Saturday March 10th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Food Bank or Covenant House Vancouver would be appreciated.  For those wishing to share a memory of John, please go to www.hollyburnfunerals.com.
