McKAY, Irene
1922 - 2011

McKay Irene, of Delia passed away on Monday, July 4th at the Hanna hospital. Irene was born in 1922 and was raised south of Delia on the Marshall homestead. In June of 1944 she married George McKay and moved north of Delia where she spent the remainder of her 89 years as a devoted mother and very involved community member.  She was an active member in the Women’s Institute, Catholic Women’s League, and The Royal Purple. Among her passions were watching baseball (especially the Lacombe tournament), dancing, cooking and feeding people (“the best bread and buns”) and whistling songs with the meadow  larks. In later years she enjoyed her soaps, reading prayers and inspirational texts and of course doting on her grandchildren. Irene loved babies and they were a magnet for her caring soul. She always wanted to look her best and loved life. Irene’s passing will leave a space in the lives of many, especially her family: children Dale, John (Robyn), Mary (Wayne), Joanna; her grandchildren Jonas, Nathan (Chrissy), Bryna, Michael, Tamara (Nathan), Brandon, Justin, Jacob, Ryan, greatgrandchildren Leela and Ethan; her wonderful sisters and sisters-in-law; Mary Long, Edith Larson, Catherine Robertson, Lorraine Cooney, Josephine Roline, Elsie Limpert, Maude Marshall, Florence Marshall as well as numerous members of the extended family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday July 13, 2011 at St George’s Catholic Church Hanna, Alberta at 11:00 A.M. with burial in  the Delia Cemetery.
