WOOD, George “Brock” Leighton
September 22, 1928 - May 9, 2010

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George “Brock” Leighton Wood. Brock passed away peacefully with his loving wife Billie (Buller) by his side on May 9, 2010.  Brock was born September 22, 1928 in Kinmount,  Ontario. It wasn’t until 1949 that Brock re-located to the Drumheller Valley with his mother and father.  Brock worked and owned several restaurants throughout the years. He was also the bookkeeper at The Atlas Coal Mine, operated the local golf course, and went on to serve as Mayor from 1992 to 1998. Brock was very well known in the community for his generosity over the past 60yrs.  Brock along with the late Os Sheddy Sr., and the late Bill Doucette were co-founders of the Annual Christmas dinner for the less fortunate and shut in. No one was ever turned away and the tradition still continues every year. Brock is survived by his wife Billie, daughter Kim, (Stewart), grand-daughter Lindsay, grandson Robin (Kris), great- grandson Robbie, daughter Gwen, grandson Caige, daughter Susan (Randy) grand-daughter Cheryl, great-grandsons Alex and Tyler, grand-daughter Nicole, son Brian (Audrey), grandsons Jeffrey and Bryson, son David (Roxanne), grand-daughter Anna, sister Doreen Gibson, niece Linda (Bob), and nephew Bob (Shelly). At the family’s request in lieu of flowers, kindly forward your donation to the Drumheller Public Library, Drumheller Regional Transition Society, or the charity of your choice. Courtney Winters Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.  At the request of Brock there will be no formal service. However a celebration of Brock’s life will be held at the Newcastle Community Hall on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 1pm to 3pm.
