George Taylor passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on October 1, 2009, with his family by his side, at the age of 87 years. George was predeceased by his Mother, Anne and his Father, Fred,  his brother, Walt and his sisters in-law, Audrey and Gertie and son in-law, Bob. He is survived by his wife Isabel, son Jim, granddaughter Samantha (Trevor), grandson Donavan, and Linda,  daughter Doreen, granddaughter Jamie, grandson Cody, son Neale (Helen), grandson Ryder, granddaughter Calleigh, brother Doug, brother Don and numerous nieces and nephews. George was born on June 3,1922 in Bengough, Saskatchewan to Fred and Anne Taylor. Throughout his lifetime, George was always known as a hard and diligent worker. He was employed in a variety of occupations, which included everything from, riding the range in the early days, to a farmer, equipment operator, carpenter, plumber, hotel and store owner and finally retiring as a school maintenance man for Starland School Division. George loved rodeo and rode saddle bronc as a young man. He loved sports and his game of choice was baseball. He prided himself on being athletic and stayed fit and active almost to his death. He was a die-hard fan of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Calgary Flames. He took a keen interest in the community service and volunteered as a fire fighter. He was a counsellor and mayor of the village of Rumsey for 9 years. He was a true Scot and he was a man who could always be relied on to stand up and be counted when he was needed and always gave his all to anyone he worked for or whoever needed a hand. If the going got tough, he just picked it up another notch. He had no fear of anyone or anything. George maintained his sense of humor to the end. He was extremely loyal to his friends. His greatest love was his family. He had a passion for life and was entertained by nature’s creatures, specifically birds. He will be sadly missed. Services were held in the Knox United Church in Drumheller, Alberta on October 6, 2009. Donations in memory of George may be made to S.T.A.R.S. or the Salvation Army.
