russell-david-james-.jpgDavid Russell passed away in Calgary on November 21, 2008 at the age of 67 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years Deirdre Russell; seven children, Christie (Michael) Eagar of Saratoga Springs, UT, James (Marcie) Russell of Strathmore, Thomas (Elise) Russell of Calgary, Carrie (Jeff) Dunning of Bragg Creek, Robert (Nancy) Russell of Calgary, Cheryl (Jordon) Grant of Saint John, NB and Cindy Russell of Calgary; 18 grandchildren; three siblings, Duncan (Barbara) Russell of Pincher Creek, Peter (Thea) Russell of Calgary and Beth Russell of Morrin, AB; and many more extended family and friends. David was predeceased by his daughter Laura Russell; grandson Joseph Russell; parents Robert & Elizabeth Russell; brothers William and Robert; and sister-in-law Carol Russell. David will always be remembered for his love and acceptance of everyone. All who met him were quickly befriended. He treasured these friendships throughout his life. He was born in Drumheller, Alberta and was a southern Alberta “farm boy” through and through. He achieved a technical degree in Land Surveying from SAIT and a Bachelors Degree in Geology from the University of Calgary. This was a testament to his thirst for knowledge throughout his life which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. David’s family will remember him for his warm sense of humor, unforgettable laugh and unending humility. He was always genuine and gave all that he could to others. He was a Beacon of light on the hill to those who were lost, to bring them back. Interment took place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens and a Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Calgary Stake Centre on Tuesday November 25, 2008. Donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints through a local LDS Church congregation.  Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca.
