In loving Memory of Irene Cooper 1924-2018

It is with sadness that the family of Irene Cooper announces her passing on June 2nd 2018, at the Drumheller Health Centre, with her son Paul and daughter-in-law Sheila, by her side. Irene, who was born in Drumheller on June 25, 1924, lived her entire life in Drumheller. Her English immigrant parents, Elijah and Sarah Williams, resided in the Midland area for a number of years. In the late 40s Irene and Tom DeCosta were married and their son Paul was born a couple of years later. Irene worked at the Corner Cafe; the original Co-op; the downtown Locker plant; Weiner’s Mens Wear; and finally worked more than 25 years in the Saan Store ladies department. It was there that Irene had the most contact with Drumheller and area ladies. In 1962 she married Lawrence (Larry) Cooper and they took up residence in Drumheller on 3 St SW and enjoyed living there until Lawrence’s passing in 2015. They had the pleasure of celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2012, which was a memorable occasion for their family and friends. Irene was predeceased by her mother Sarah; her brother Ted; her father Elijah; her sisters Estelle and Doreen; and her loving husband Lawrence. She leaves to mourn her son Paul/Sheila DeCosta; her grandchildren Darrin/Meghan, Deanna DeCosta; her great grandchildren Danika and Lukas, Jamie and Andrew; her nieces Irene Kohut and family; Carolyn Braunberger and family; and her nephew Ted/Gail Rounds. The family wishes to thank the kind staff of Sunshine and Hillview Lodge, who cared for Irene over the past three years. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Beach and Dr. Mateer as well as to the nursing staff of the Drumheller Health Centre for their tender compassionate care of Irene in her final days. As Irene loved social gatherings and visits from family and friends, a service in memory of her life will be held in mid July 2018 at St. Magloires Anglican Church in
Drumheller, Alberta.
