Mr. Howard Schafer of Drumheller passed away from heart failure on April 11, 2017 in Calgary surrounded by his loving family. Howard was born on June 11, 1932 in Tudor, Alberta to Fred and Joan Schafer, he was raised in East Coulee, Alberta. Howard held many positions as a young man; such as working on the railroad as a Blacksmith; a navigator in the Air Force, before joining the Department of Transportation as an Air Traffic Controller, a position which he held for over 30 years. Howard married Viola Bischke on May 29, 1954 and together they had five children; Terry, Debbie, Linda, Thomas and Nancy. He is survived by his 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Howard is predeceased by his wife; Viola, his parents; Fred and Joan Schafer, brother; Joseph. Funeral Services for Howard were held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. from the Grace Lutheran Church, Drumheller, Alberta.
