Donald Blair

Born November 10, 1926
Died March 28, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Blair Wilson, peacefully and surrounded by his family, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on March 28, 2017, at 90 years of age. He was predeceased in 2011 by his wife of 51 years Myrtle (nee Sowerby), his parents Nellie Cameron and Robert Hackett Wilson and step-dad John Cameron, and his brothers Gordon and Lawrence. He is survived by his sister Cathy; son Donald James; grandchildren Michelle (Kevin), Donald (Michelle), Chad, Robert (Kylee) and Stephanie (Stephen); and great grandchildren Talin, Gabriel, Abigail, Benjamin and Violet; as well as many other family, friends and neighbours whose company he valued. Donald was born and grew up in Kyle, Saskatchewan and moved to Drumheller when he was sixteen with $2.50 in his pocket. He led an accomplished life with many careers, including coal mining, CP Rail, Alberta Power, masonry, parts man, construction, driving taxi, DeMott’s, Whitlock Lumber and Anchor Glass. In his spare time he took on carpentry projects, took great pride in his yard, and enjoyed feeding his birds and napping in his recliner. He lived independently up until his recent illness. We would like to thank the Drumheller Hospital staff (nurses, doctors, support staff and EMS) who took such gentle care of Don, as well as the Red Deer Regional staff who also provided such great care. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony beside his wife. We would like to thank everyone who has sent their well wishes. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes were in care of the arrangements.
