PINKUS (MARUS), Helen

April 4, 1924 - November 30, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Helen Pinkus. She passed peacefully to the Lord’s calling at the age of 92, surrounded with family at the Drumheller Regional Health Complex on November 30, 2016. Helen was born in Matranovak, Hungary on April 4, 1924 to Stephen and Rose Marus. At the age of 9, she ventured to Canada with her mother, to settle in Midland with her father who found their new life a few years earlier here in the Drumheller mining valley. She had attended school in Midland, where she had developed many life-long friendships dear to her heart. At the age of 19, Helen married Joseph Pinkus, to which they had three children, Melvin, Carolyn, and Clark. She took great pride in her beautiful yard keeping it postcard perfect, all while raising family, making the world’s best meals, and helping their taxi business day in and day out. She endured many tragic times early in her life, but stood strong through her tough times with her great faith, and with her Church. Helen was most often found outdoors tending to her sanctuary that birds and wildlife loved so well. She had the good fortune to live out her entire life in the house she made a family home to her age of 92. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her son Melvin, her husband Joe, and her sister Ann Marus. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn McCullough, son Clark (Kathy), grandchildren Nik Jones, Kimberly Olson, Carver Pinkus, Sophia Pinkus and great grandchildren Hunter Jones and Roman Middlemass. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed at the Drumheller Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Drumheller Area Health Foundation. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Home were in care of arrangements.
