VerdelLowes

LOWES, VERDEL LYLA

December 1, 1926 - November 28, 2016

With heartfelt sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother, Verdel Lowes on November 28, 2016 with her family by her side. Mom was born on December 1, 1926 in Outlook, Saskatchewan to Bruce and Minerva Burlingame. She grew up on their homestead farm with her three brothers. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator where she met the love of her life Neil, and they were married in 1949. Their first-born Dennis arrived in 1951, followed by Larry in 1952, Victor in 1955 and Dorelle in 1959. While the children were growing up, Mom and Dad enjoyed many family camping and fishing trips. After Dad passed away, a few years later her family moved to Drumheller where she ran a restaurant for 8 years. Through her many years of working at Riverside Value Drug Mart, mom touched the lives of many of her co-workers. Mom also worked alongside her daughter Dorelle for many years at Sears, where they had many laughs and made great memories. Mom was known for her mischievous sense of humour, contagious laugh and always had a smile on her face. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Mom was predeceased by her husband Neil in 1969, her son Dennis in 2015, parents Bruce and Minerva Burlingame and brothers Wayne, Glen (Rita) and Edwin. Mom is survived by her sons Larry (Judy), Vic (Linda), daughter Dorelle (John), daughter in-law Joanne and her sister in-law Bernice. Also mourning her loss are her grandchildren, Bryce (Julie), Brett, Tara (Dustin), Neil (Oh), Maegan, Kelly (Danny), Cheri (Brian), Chad (Meghan), Lauren, Ryan, Ashley (Mark), and Kaylie (Dustin). She will also be dearly missed by her great grandchildren, Brieanne (Phil), Brennan, Brycen, Kieveon, Holden, Sebastian, Ella, Emily, Stephen, Lexus, Teagan, Ava, Dru, Cohen and Bennett. She will also be missed by Dorelle’s mother in-law Jean Peterson, many nieces and nephews along with close friends. Mom was looking forward to celebrating her 90th Birthday this weekend. In her honour, we will be celebrating her life on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Courtney Winters Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation – Home Care. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
