Condolences to the family of MIKE SLEMKO

MikeSlemko

SLEMKO, Mike

September 26, 2016

Mike passed away September 26 at the age of 96, being the last survivor of the William Slemko family. Having graduated from Atlas School, he spent his entire life in the Hussar area. After his marriage to Mary in 1941, they farmed in the Wintering Hills area before retiring in Hussar. Mike was a true (never really retired) farmer and hard worker. He enjoyed dancing and music and could be heard around the house singing to his favourite “Golden Oldies”, (best sung “off key”). Friends and family will remember him for his sense of humour, and above all, his smiles and laughter. Mike was predeceased by his wife Mary (April 27, 2014), brother John, and sisters Mary and Effie. Leaving behind, with fond memories, are son Bill (Kay), daughter Geraldine Clark of Penticton, B.C., four grandchildren, Kevin (Barb) Slemko of Hussar, Heather Lyons of Calgary, Stacy (Joey) Clark of Winnipeg and Trevor Clark of White Rock, B.C. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Hannah and Justin Lyons, Meredith Clark, and Erin and Jason Slemko. Funeral Services for Mike will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Hussar on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hussar Cemetery Fund or Hussar Community Hall, c/o Village of Hussar, P.O. Box 100, Hussar, Alberta, T0J 1S0. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
