Janice Marie Altin of Hanna, beloved wife of the late Rob Altin, passed away suddenly at home in Hanna on Saturday, June 11th, 2016 at the age of 58 years. Janice leaves to cherish her memory three children, Palmer Altin (Lisa), Dustin Altin (Nasim), and Melissa Altin (Jason Kopeck); one grandson, Ryker; two brothers, Gordon Lentz and Bob (Joyce) Lentz; one sister, Dianna Lentz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Janice was predeceased by her husband, Rob, on February 6th, 2011; and her daughter, Jennifer Altin on February 12th, 2005; her parents, Sam and Christine Lentz; and her in-laws, Lou and Marj Altin. Janice was born on October 8th, 1957 in Medicine Hat. In 1976, after a brief courtship, Janice married Rob Altin and lived with him on the Running Bar X Ranch outside of Medicine Hat. In 1977, they moved to the Delia District where they lived and worked on the Imperial Ranch for 19 years. She took care of the house and cooked large meals during harvest and corral cleaning for her family and all of the other workers. She made sure that new workers and families to the Ranch felt welcomed and settled in quickly. In 1980, Janice gave birth to their first child and had an additional 3 children in the following years. In 1996, they purchased their own farm where they finished raising their children. She worked very hard as a stay-at-home mother and did everything possible to give her children the lessons and things they needed to become the adults they are today. Janice cared deeply for people and did anything she could for anyone in need; she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching and making a variety of crafts and baking. After her children were grown up, Janice worked as a poll clerk during Federal and Provincial elections and enjoyed spending her time visiting with friends and family, travelling, touring and going on bus trips, going to church and participating in bible studies, her book club and Janice also had a love of music, playing piano and organ. She enjoyed being a member of the Crown Jewels and was looking forward to going on a cruise with them in 2017. The Funeral Service will be held at the HANNA COMMUNITY CENTRE, 503 – 4th Street West, Thursday, June 23rd, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Geoff Meadows officiating.
