SHANDERA, Rudolph Henry

September 2, 1925 - May 1, 2016

Aged 90 years, 7 months. World War II veteran who proudly served with the Calgary Fusiliers branch of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment from 1944 - 1946. Rudolph returned from service abroad with his war bride Mary Ellen (Butler) Shandera of Butlerville, Nfld to the family farm in the Handhills. He left the family farm to work for CNR for 44 years, retiring in 1990. Rudolph was born in Hanna and was the last surviving child of seven born to Rudolph and Alice Jane (Ditchfield) of Handhills, AB. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Ellen on June 21, 2007, his father Rudolph (1958), mother Alice (1933), brothers William, Clarence, Raymond and sisters Elsie Emily, Annie Alice (Volb), May (Pugh) and grandson David in 1977. He is survived by his children Dr Raymond and Elizabeth Shandera (Lori, Jill, Robert); Phil and Anita Shandera (Nathan, Nancy and Natalie); Gerald and Brenda Shandera (Brad, Gary and Tina); Geraldine and Steve Racine (Bob, Bill, Barrett and Brandi); 6 foster children raised as their own and many great grandchildren. Thank you to Dr. Graham and the staff at Drumheller Hospital for the excellent care Dad received. A family service will be held at a later date.
