ENGEN, Clarence (Gus)

April 25, 1938 - August 23, 2015

Clarence passed away peacefully with his family by his side August 23, 2015 in Red Deer General Hospital.  Clarence was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, and we are lucky to have so many fond memories, and comforted to know that he will be remembered by so many.  Clarence was born in Drumheller, AB to August and Phyllis, being the youngest of four kids.  He was predeceased by Mini and Jim, and will be missed by Sister Phyllis Kulyk of Calgary.  Clarence married Eileen (Nelson) in 1961, celebrating 54 wonderful years together, Eileen jokes that at the age of 12 she knew that Clarence was her guy.  They had three children, Derek (Debbie) of Camrose, Bradley (Deborah) of Drumheller and Dana Tattrie of Leduc.  Clarence was a wonderful grandfather to Sara, Brittney, John, Jessica, Cody, Rachel and Brady.  He was also fortunate to become a great grandfather to baby Charlotte.  Clarence lived an interesting life which took him on adventures around the world working on off shore drilling rigs and later on running heavy equipment in construction.  In his golden years, Clarence enjoyed the love of his family and making his daily rounds for morning coffee with many of his friends talking about the business of the day and world events.  Clarence loved his coffee, and would faithfully be the first one at the Pioneer Center to make sure that the coffee was on.  It was Clarence’s wish to not have a service.  In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or “Pay It Forward”, buy a coffee someday for a friend or stranger and make their day!
