Warkentin-Nicholas

WARKENTIN, Nicholas

October 14, 1922 - December 19, 2014

Nick was born in a German settlement in Russia on October 14, 1922 to Jacob & Kathlene Warkentin.  The family immigrated to Canada in 1926, when Nick was four years old.  The family settled in Sunnynook and then in Munson, ending up in the Drumheller Valley. Nick served in the Army in the R.C.O.C. department when he was 21 years old until 1946. One of his favourite activities was hunting with friends, Rick, Mike, and Sandy.  Once his grandson Tyler was old enough, the two went hunting together.  Nick also liked to play hockey, he spent many hours watching Canada’s greatest sport on T.V.  Nick owned his own Trucking Business in the valley for ten years.  He pursued trucking for the next 42 years driving for M.D. Sands Trucking hauling shale and gravel.  Nick loved trucking, he drove 3 million miles.  Nick will be sadly missed by his loving family and a lifetime of friends. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Jacob & Kathlene, sisters Elizabeth (Joe) Gerodo, Kate (Joe) Doshier,  Anna (Pete) McLean,  Bertha (Sam) Sandulak,  Heidi (Doug) Krasman, brothers, Jacob, Irvine and Edward.  Nick is survived by his loving wife, Jean of 66 years, daughter, Jenine (Bruce) Trotz, grandson, Tyler (Trina) Warkentin, and one great grandson Carter Nicholas Warkentin.  He also leaves to mourn sisters-in-law, Shirley Warkentin, Elspeth Lepard, Lolo Slater, Wilma Payne, Lillian Pennycook, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date (February 2015).  If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Dialysis Unit). Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
