Blanche Elizabeth (Galarneau) Hodgson was the last of the original Galarneau born at Galarneauville on March 26, 1918. She was the middle daughter of Henry and Christina Galarneau. Blanche took all her schooling in Galarneauville School and shared many wonderful memories with the cousins that lived nearby. Blanche married Eric Hodgson on May 18 1936 in Hanna and they started their married life at the Dorothy Store. Gordon Hodgson the first of their 4 children was born.  The fall of 1937 they moved to Thumb Hill and worked for Alex Gillespie.  Their daughter Ethel Hodgson was born while there. That was when her cooking started.  Everyone knew Blanche would have enough to feed an extra one or two.  They moved to the south side of the river at War time and two more sons were born, Donald and Douglas Hodgson.  Blanche and Eric spent the rest of their lives together down by the Red Deer River.  There were many adventures in their lives. Stampedes, Rodeos, Brandings, Trail rides, camping at Rocky Mountain House, Alaska Cruises, Trip to Hawaii with her sister Alice.  Bus trips to the USA, Family Reunions. Blanche passed away with her family at her side. She is survived by her Daughter Ethel Davies, Sons; Don (Dixie) Hodgson and Douglas Hodgson. Grandchildren: Norma Davies, Jim (Joanne) Hodgson, Wesley Davies, Harry (Tammy) Hodgson, Shannon (Chris) Mertens, Sandi (Scott) Jones, Wendy Hodgson (Mark Lee), Karmen (Denise) Hodgson, Chyanne (Wade) Maurer, and 21 Great Grandchildren as well numerous Nieces and Nephews. Blanche was predeceased by; her parents Henry and Christina Galarneau, husband Eric Hodgson, son Gordon Hodgson, Grandsons Murray and Larry Hodgson, and Son in-law John Davies. As a family, we wish to express our appreciation to the staff of Sunshine Lodge, Dr. Graham and the Nurses and staff of Drumheller Hospital for their excellent care and kindness shown to Blanche this past year. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 10, at 11:00 am at St Antony’s Roman Catholic Church, 151-3rd Street West, Drumheller, Alberta with Father Rudy Badiola officiating.
