DAVIES John James

DAVIES, John James
December 20, 1930 - September 8, 2013

On Sunday September 8, John J Davies passed away after a 10 month battle with cancer.  John was born December 20, 1930 in Hanna Alberta.  He was the youngest of 5 children born to Daniel and Edith Davies. John married the love of his life Ethel Hodgson on May 18, 1957 and they lived and farmed on the Davies family farm where he grew up until they retired to Rosedale in July 1999.  In John’s young adult life he was owner/operator of Davies trucking. Also was in partnership with Ed Peake in the Peake and Davies Oilfield in the late 60s. John had an unwavering community spirit and spent many winter evenings flooding skating rink-shoveling snow or working on the Homestead Coulee Community Hall.  John was at his happiest when he was building, fixing or creating something in his garage. Always had his hands busy, always had a project in the works. His greatest project was 1930 Model A Coupe, John and Ethel spent many weekends touring the country side looking for pieces, parts and treasures  to rebuild from the ground up.  Famous in the community for his mechanical ingenuity.  Everyone knew his garage door was always open for repairs, questions or just for a good visit.  John became the gardener after retirement, and always shared and swapped the produce from his garden.  Never turned down a berry or fruit that could be made into his wine. That too was always shared with friends and family.  There are many Willow birdfeeders in the valley that he made for local charities in the community to raffle.   John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Ethel, Daughter Norma, Son Wesley, and grandchildren Jonathan, Nicole, Katlyn, Jaeden, Jaycee,  Sister Elsie Berke and many niece and nephews.  If  friends desire they may donate to a cancer of their choice in his memory. There will be a Come and Go Memorial Social for John on Saturday September 14, 2013 at the Homestead Coulee Community Hall between 2pm & 5pm.
