PENNOCK Laura M.

PENNOCK, Laura M.

Laura M. Pennock of Rumsey, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2013 at the age of 91 years. Laura was born in Morrin, the eldest of 11 children, to George and Mary Storch. She attended Hillsgreen School to Grade Nine. She was the first girl in the grain club in Alberta where she won a scholarship to go to Olds College for one year. She married Harold in June of 1944. They lived at Morrin on the farm until 1957 when they moved to Rumsey. Laura took pride in every job she was offered and never turned anyone down whether it was housecleaning, boarders, catering or plucking over 5000 chickens in a season. She was a Brownie Leader for years. She taught many people to crochet, knit, drive, cook, etc.  All of her children were taught all of her good qualities. She had an honorary life membership of the Alberta Horticulture Association.  She enjoyed gardening and raised many vegetables and flowers. Her hands were never idle, always a pair of knitting needles or crochet hook between those worn fingers. If you were ever in her house in Rumsey  you would remember her awards.  She had many and was proud of them. She was an avid spoon collector, never bought any yet knew the origin of every one. She loved to play cards and started her day with a few games of solitaire. She belonged to the Rumsey Red Deer River Garden Club for many years and took many entries to the shows. Laura loved her sports. She was a member of the Morrin Flyers fastball team, curled, loved watching the chuckwagons, and was a faithful Calgary Flames fan. Many clubs benefitted from her membership, leadership and participation.
