SIMON Hugh Swail

SIMON, Hugh Swail
1935 - 2013

Hugh Swail Simon was born on June 14th, 1935 in Arundel, Quebec and passed away on June 29th, 2013 in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Hugh was predeceased by his parents Stirling and Lila of Hudson, Quebec. He is survived by his son Bruce (Simone) Simon and daughters Jennifer (Rick) Martens, Katherine Foerster and Jill (Chris) Zdunich. He is also survived by his grandchildren Samantha (Dan) Kuehnel, Benjamin Martens, Robert Simon, Jaclyn Simon and sister Rhoha (John) Kerr and extended families.  Hugh left Quebec for Alberta as a young man. He tried his hand at cowboying, rail roading and the air force before he found his first calling with the RCMP. He spent 25 years serving small communities in Saskatchewan. Upon retirement, he returned to his first love – cowboying; he remained a cowboy until his passing. He could always be counted on to entertain with his guitar, his harmonica, his singing and his story telling. He never went anywhere without his dog Shelagh.  Hugh left an impression on every person he met; his love of people shone through in that he was never too busy for a coffee and a visit. There was an informal  gathering held on Saturday, July 6th, 2013 at the Sierra West Cabins on Hwy 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Hugh’s memory to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation 100, 119 14th Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1Z6.
