SEMBER, George
January 15, 1918 - March 27, 2013


George Martin Sember passed away at the Drumheller Continuing Care Centre at the age of 95 on March 27, 2013. George was born at the family farm home in the Hesketh area on January 15, 1918.
He took his schooling at Hesketh, Alberta and began farming with his dad in 1934 until 1940. He then went to Ontario and worked for a company where he learned to be a machinist from 1940-1943. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on Many 30, 1943 in the Second World War. He served overseas in England as an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic. He was discharged from the Airforce at the end of the war on June 21, 1946.
He went to Victoria, BC where he ran a small machine shop and repair service. George returned to Hesketh in 1951 and once again started farming. He met Elisabeth Henstridge from Victoria, B.C. and they were married on July 17, 1954 in Calgary. In October 1958 they purchased land in the Pine Lake area wehere he farmed for a number of years. George moved from his farm at Pine Lake into the Linden Lodge in 2004. In 2007 he moved into the Drumheller Continuing Care Centre where he resided until his passing.
George was predeceased by his mother Rhoda Sember on March 27, 1966, his father Martin George Sember on May 19, 1974, his wife Elisabeth Sember on March 17, 1986 and his sister Margaret (Peggy) Berdahl on April 2, 2008.
George is survived by one sister, Gladys Olson of Vancouver, Washington. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces Gordon (Carol) Berdahl of Edmonton, Alberta, Carol (Russ) Gill of Drumheller, Alberta, Elainer Berdahl of Drumheller, Jean Hare of Red Water, Alberta, Dennis (Susan) Berdahl of Drumheller and Evelyne (Tom) Golke of Vancouver, Washington. A funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Courtney-Winters Funeral Home in Drumheller.
