Fiala traded at deadline

The Drumheller Dragons have had a busy week.
Monday was the mid-season trade deadline and Head Coach and General Manager Brian Curran made the difficult decision to trade 20-year-old defenseman Cody Fiala to the Bonnyville Pontiacs. The Prince Alberta, Saskatchewan native spent the 2013-2014 season and the beginning of this season with the Dragons.
Curran said, "We were put into a really tough situation. At the end of the day we are only allowed to have six 20 (year olds) and we had seven. Cody was a complete gentleman. I love the way he improved. He has great character. He gave everything to the game. Every shift, every practice, everything. I hope he does well because he is quite a remarkable young man."
On Tuesday night the Drumheller Dragons traveled to Olds to face the Grizzlys.
The Grizzlys took a 6-0 shutout against the Dragons handing them their fifth straight loss.
Keaton Holinaty was the Dragons star of the game.
Curran said the team has not played well on the road the last few games.
"Three out of our five losses I think we could have won, but our last two on the road we have not played well. It was a little disappointing after yesterday. I think we played very strong against Camrose (on Saturday). At the end of the day we just need to get ourselves more focused and our effort will get better from this day forth I think. The players understand, even though we are missing players, I think some of us are using that as an excuse and waiting until they get back and that doesn't work. We just have to get ourselves in the right mindset and we need to get some players back that is for sure. We are going to get this resolved sooner than later, I can ensure you of that."
The Dragons will finish off the week hosting the Brooks Bandits on tonight (Friday) and Calgary Mustangs on Saturday night. Both games have a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at Memorial Arena.

Home invasion near Irricana

RCMP-CREST-COLOUR

During evening hours of Wednesday, December 3, RCMP Beiseker were called to a rural residence near Irricana. The home invasion occurred sometime throughout the night, but it wasn't until almost eight in the morning that the Beiseker RCMP were called.

Two occupants were in the basement of the home at the time of the incident.  They have provided statements to police and advised that two suspects fled the home in a black SUV, heading in an unknown direction.

Calgary Serious Crimes Branch and Airdrie RCMP are assisting the Beiseker RCMP with the continuing investigation into the matter.

Police are confident this is not a random attack and are asking anyone with information to contact the Beiseker RCMP at  (403) 947-3420.  To provide an anonymous tip, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
