A Calgary driver reaching for his coffee caused a collision with another pick-up truck Friday morning in Drumheller’s industrial area.
Drumheller RCMP, Drumheller Fire Department, and EMS all responded to the collision on the 800 block of South Railway Avenue in Drumheller shortly before 7 a.m. February 27.
RCMP report their investigation showed that a white Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 44 year-old male from Calgary was travelling westbound on South Railway Avenue, and when the driver reached for his coffee, his truck swerved into oncoming traffic in the opposite lane.
The 50 year-old Drumheller driver in an eastbound white Ford pick-up  saw the oncoming vehicle and swerved to try and avoid the other pick-up, but both vehicles ended up side swiping each other.
The driver from Drumheller was not injured, and the Calgary driver of the Silverado was trapped until removed by the Drumheller Fire department.  He was transported by EMS win non-life threatening injuries to the Drumheller Health Centre, and released short time later.
RCMP say both vehicles sustained substantial damage in the collision, addin no names are being released as charges are pending in the continuing investigation.
