Drumheller Curling Club planning for future

Members of the Drumheller Curling club will get a glimpse of what the future might look like on Monday when it unveils some of the club’s potential plans.
The Drumheller Curling Club has been enjoying a resurgence with popular events throughout the season and a burgeoning junior program. It has also been hosting fun nights which has also brought in new users.
The club has also been busy looking at the possibility of replacing the facility beside the Drumheller Memorial Arena.  Lorelei Martin has been working on a committee for a new facility and says they will present a feasibility plan to the membership this coming Monday, April 10.
She explains the Club was able to receive a Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant to help fund the feasibility study. They contracted GEC to complete the report.
“We have had quite a lot of support from the town in the process,” said Martin. “They provided letters of support.”
She adds that because much of the background work had been completed by the town, they were able to realize some savings on the feasibility study.
The study looked at the possibility of either a four-rink or six-rink facility. The town has earmarked the area north of the Drumheller Memorial Arena for a new facility in close proximity to the ice plant that could serve both the arena and the curling facility. The potential costs for the plans will be shared with membership at large at the Monday night’s meeting.
“The town continues to work with us on the project,” said Martin. “It has been very positive with the new rink team.”
The club has been actively fundraising for the feasibility study as well as the potential project.
The meeting with curling club membership at large and GEC will be at 7 p.m. in the large meeting room at the Badlands Community Facility.
