Bad Santa

Court House 2

A man who robbed Ware’s Jewelry in Stettler on Christmas Eve, 2015, in a Santa Suit, has been sentenced to more than three years in jail.

On March 14, Shawn Steier of Medicine Hat pleaded guilty in provincial court in Stettler to robbery with a firearm, disguised with intent to commit an offense and other weapons-related offenses.
On December 24, 2015, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a lone male wearing a Santa Claus costume, entered the Ware's Jewelry store located in downtown Stettler. The male produced a firearm and demanded various items including jewelry and precious stones.
The suspect then left the store and drove away in a black Hummer H2 SUV. No employees were physically harmed during the commission of this crime.
In September 2016, 31-year-old Shaw Steier was charged. Following his guilty plea last week, he was sentenced to over three years in custody, as well as a lifetime firearm prohibition, and was ordered to pay restitution and a fine.
