The first of the new Wayfinding signs were unveiled today at the corner of Railway Avenue and Centre Street in downtown Drumheller,
This is the first in a series of 11 signs, which were unanimously approved by the Wayfinding Signage Committee on Sept 15. The committee worked with Urban Systems (urban design specialists) through the summer to determine design and location.
“The priority in 2016 has been to improve signage in the downtown core. However the plan is to look at a wider area in the future as well as vehicular signage,” explains Paul Salvatore Director of Community Services. “It was important that the design reflected our unique local landscape, whilst being low maintenance and have a high level of durability.”
The Wayfinding signage package is a key item identified in the Tourism Master Plan. It has been funded through the $35,000, 2016 downtown revitalization project.
“Pedestrian signage is vital in welcoming visitors to our community as we help them discover our great businesses,” states Julia Fielding Economic Development and Communications Officer. “Urban systems have designed the signs and worked with the committee on the locations throughout Drumheller. They are a renowned urban design company who work on projects throughout Western Canada and North America.”
The remaining signs will be installed in time for spring.
