Net amateur golf tournament to be held in Drumheller

Tom Zariski

The end of August is looking very busy for golf enthusiasts. The Alberta Golf Association will be hosting a tournament in Drumheller on Tuesday, August 30 and Wednesday, August 31.
This two-day tournament is categorized as net amateur with handicaps.
Tom Zariski, Vice President of The Alberta Golf Association explains, “This means that all levels of skill will be able to play. Players with a higher skill level will be equal to players with a lower skill set because of the handicaps given.”
Players will also be grouped into flights with a winner in each flight. The tournament will be open to men and ladies. A prize ceremony and dinner will also be held for the participants of the tournament.
Zariski is confident the town will benefit from the event.
“It will be very good for businesses. The golf community wants to play in Drumheller. When people play here they often go home and tell their friends and that stirs up even more people to come to the valley,” says Zariski.
Drumheller hotels, businesses and tourist attractions will also be used, Zariski told The Mail.
He said, “Some people like to practice the course before the tournament so they may even come a month before the tournament. They will be using all of what Drumheller has to offer.”
