Delia remembers

The Delia Historical Society organized that community’s Remembrance Day service on November 11, at the Community Hall.
The Honour Guard was piped in by Piper Bill Hawes, followed by Corporal Rod Guthrie and Constable Craig Nelson of the Drumheller RCMP, the Delia Legion and Ladies Auxiliary.
Village of Delia Deputy Mayor John Rogers brought greetings from the village, recounting his family’s extensive involvement in wartime service to Canada, and was followed by Delia Elks member Paul Marshall, thanking those assembled for attending the service, and urging them to continue to remember the reasons to honour those in wartime service.
Local Robyn Thompson-Lake gave a wonderful rendition of “Danny Boy”, one of the all-time favourite wartime songs that remind many of the sadness of those years.
Delia Historical Society member Ian Morrison read a poem of remembrance for veterans, and introduced Master Warrant Officer Kevin Bonetta, RCAF, from Cold Lake Air Base, who narrated a video presentation about Canadian Forces participation in wartime action, skirmishes, peace-keeping missions, and even the involvement in events of today in other parts of the world.
Doreen Nelson delivered the Message for Remembrance Day to the gathering, which carried several emotional passages, and ending with the recitation of “The Lord’s Prayer”.
Legion member Terry Hudson was in charge of the playing of “The Last Post”, and of “Reveille”
Ian Morrison read out the names of those from the area who had passed in the service of their country, before leading the assembly to the Memorial Park at the entrance to the Village, where wreaths were laid in honour of service, and the crowd was invited to put their poppies on the new Memorial Wall, or on the original cairn nearby.
Luncheon and time for fellowship followed the service back at the Community Hall.
