Filling your child’s bucket one star at a time. That is what the Drumheller and area Early Childhood Development Coalition (DECDC) Early Years Fair on Thursday, October 15 will be all about.

The event, which will take place at the Badlands Community Facility from 2 to 7 p.m., is an opportunity for families with children from 0-5 years to learn about the services in Drumheller and area.

Shauna Watson, co-ordinator for the DECDC, said the fourth annual event will feature 21 exhibitors that parents can speak to and get information about what they offer.

“The event is about families coming together to celebrate the importance and all the wonderfulness of the early years for a child as they are learning and growing,” she said.

“We ask families to come and join us for information, tips, and activities to help their child get a head start in life. This event is a great way for families who have children 0-5 to meet and connect with the resources in the community,” she told inSide Drumheller, continuing by saying older siblings are welcome to attend with their family.

Watson said the fair will feature a play area set up in the middle of the room for children to participate in, “hands on, age appropriate fun activities.”

The event will feature a parent passport, Watson said, that allows parents to visit each exhibitor and get a star for their passport to fill their child’s bucket with information to help them grow.

Watson said last year’s event saw 52 families attend, eight of which were walk-ins. She explained that if those looking to attend have not had an opportunity to pre-register prior to the event, they are welcomed as walk-ins that day.
