Enhancing the beauty of Rosebud

The Rosebud Community Enhancement Society (RCES) is wrapping up another successful year of beautifying the village.
RCES is the group responsible for planting and maintaining the flowers and trees throughout the town during the year.
The volunteer society was first formed in 1976, with its main focus to enhance the beauty of the Village of Rosebud.
The group’s most recent project was setting up Angel Square, the Christmas light display in the centre of Rosebud.
In addition to that, the society’s  LaVerne Erickson said the group received a grant this year and was able to purchase new fitness equipment for the community’s recreation room.
Erickson said the group also worked to plant a number of new trees around town in 2014.
“A mixture of evergreens, some green ash, maple and some aspen, and poplar. So we’ve got a complement of trees around.”
Erickson said the planting of trees is done annually by the Enhancement Society. Rosebud residents grow the trees on their own property, then when they’re ready, take them and plant them around town.
“We’ve planted hundreds and hundreds of trees over the years,” Erickson said.
“Not all of them live, but that’s why it looks like a park down here - we always plant more trees.”
Erickson said he’s worked at growing trees and planting them throughout Rosebud for 40 years.
For 2015, the group would like to try and build at least one gazebo in town, said Erickson, in addition to expanding the Christmas light display.
