Champion light displays crowned

Ramsbottom

Drumheller is shining bright leading up to Christmas as the top light displays in the valley were crowned.
The Town of Drumheller held its First Light Up The Night contest for residents to showcase their holiday light displays. With only a week to gather entries, there was strong interest as 13 local homeowners signed up from Nacmine to East Coulee.
It was an incredible response for the first time,” said Eric Neuman, community services coordinator for the Town of Drumheller. “It showed us residents have pride in their homes and community.”
Judging took place last week as Neuman, Economic Development officer Cory Glydon and Councillors Tom Zariski and Patrick Kolafa toured each residence entered. A point system was used to determine the winner.
In the end, the home of Rob and Naomi Ramsbottom of Midland were selected for the top prize.  They were rewarded with a gift certificate for Sublime Food and Wine and a $20 gift card for Drumheller co-op courtesy of The Drumheller Mail.
In second place were Kevin and Linda Farmer of Newcastle. They received a composter and rain barrel from the Town of Drumheller as well as a Co-op gift card from The Drumheller Mail.
Neuman was encouraged by the first year effort and says next year they are looking at expanding the contest to include commercial entries or even entries from individuals streets or communities.
For those wishing to check out the entries, a number have consented to allowing their addresses to be published.
