Fred Wilfred
December 8, 1948 - February 11, 2018
It is with a heavy heart our family announces the loss of a great-great man, Fred Wilfred Minor on February 11, 2018. The love he gave was exhausted and his heart just got tired. A little after 4:00 a.m. the machines
were turned off and with his brothers at his side he slipped away from this world. Reuniting with his family and many faithful 4 legged companions. We hope for his well-earned peace, full of new life and free of pain. Together we mourn a man whose laugh was larger than life. His smile was always endless and his faith in humanity was one to be reckoned with. He proudly served his country training overseas, and worked as a guard in the Drumheller penitentiary, together almost 4 decades of service. His ability to treat every soul on earth with equal respect was more than admirable. Living his life to the fullest Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing like it was the breath of life! With a yearly full season camp he enjoyed many a card game and telling stories about the good times and bad. The laughter favourites came from the bad times, the sink holes and trying to hold down a wounded deer. Each day was a fresh start with a new adventure to be had. Who really shot the biggest game was a truth you could count on from Fred. Winning or losing at cards to determine who did the dishes, didn’t always matter, the importance was to share in a bountiful feast. Although bachelorhood was his life, Fred mentored his nieces and nephews and was always a clear supporter. This mentorship expanded to many friends and youth, including clients at his horse camp. Fred was a helpful neighbour and had a great sense of community. A handshake was the foundation on the measure of a man, and he never broke his word. He treated women with the highest respect, this usually ensured a good meal in the future. His love of sports helped perfect his mountainside parking or finding more tinfoil for the radio. Go Blue Jays or other chants could often be heard while enjoying a glass of scotch. Newcomers were always welcome and he gave everyone an equal chance to prove their skills in camp. If you had cooking or wood cutting skills you were more than welcome to a drink usually spilling into an evening of laughter. His large appearance and sometimes brute look could be misleading, but with a child on his knee it was clear he was a teddy bear at heart. For hugs that encouraged, a warming smile and a knack for a good belly laugh, Fred was someone to count on. With his hand made lures, self-filled shells and a plan that maybe only he understands, we know he’s happy now. He’s on the hunt and he knows just where to go, his best buddies are already welcoming him over the mountain. Remember it’s not always the prize you bring home, but the lesson or love you shared while making a good story. To a man well-loved may his stories always be told, and may his love always be felt. Fred leaves behind his siblings Jim (Christa), Janet (Colin), Donna (Peter), Bob (Doris), Neil, Ron and Jay (Nancy); and cherished nieces and nephews, Yvonne, Sherry, Amy, Jason, Devon, Danielle, Shannon, Wendi, Jerrod, Melanie, Melissa, Tyrel, Elisha, Quinton, Lacey, Jenna, Alex, Nicholas, Stacy and Travis. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends and colleagues. In honour of Fred’s wishes cremation will take place and a Mountainside Memorial will follow. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at East Coulee Community Hall, (120 4 Street, East Coulee, AB), on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Messages of remembrance may be left for the family at www.southcalgaryfuneralcentre.ca
