Condolences to the family of Henry Barborka

Henry Barborka passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Drumheller Health Centre on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the age of 89 years.
Henry Thomas Barborka was just nine years old when World War II broke out. Henry spent his early teens working as a chimney sweep, surviving the Nazi Occupation and then the Russian Oppression. After two failed attempts to escape Poland, he finally made it by swimming across a river on a chilly winter night at the age of 17. Henry made his way through Europe, continuing through many check points finally arriving in Belgium where he worked in the mines, in a refugee camp and even attempted to join the French Foreign Legion. Henry made his way to Toronto then to the Yukon where he worked in the silver mines. From the Yukon, Henry ended up in Drumheller where he reunited with Vera who later became the love of his life. Henry first worked for the Railroad in the Drumheller area before settling into various positions at the Drumheller Hospital until his retirement in 1990.
In his later years Henry loved to meet visitors to the valley speaking one of the languages he knew and relished playing bingo. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and a lifetime of friends.
Henry was predeceased by his wife Vera in 1983 and son George in 2018.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory, four children; Stan (Shirley), Lucy (Glen), Larry (Linda), Kathy (Fred), seven grandchildren; Jody, Bonni, Lisa, Lesli, Aimee’, Ryan, Dakota (aka; Cody), six great grandchildren; Paige, Dylan, Nathan, Sam, Carter, Rexx and his remaining brother in Poland.
Funeral Mass for Henry will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. There will be a luncheon to follow at the St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Hall immediately following the Service of Committal at the Drumheller Cemetery. The family invites all to come and listen to the Tribute, watch a slideshow and have a time of fellowship.
If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Sunshine Lodge Recreation Department.

With sad hearts, we announce Oscar’s peaceful passing on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the age of 87 years.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 62 years, Marguerite and their 4 children, Lorie (Brian), Rod (Jacalyn), Dale (Glenda) and Doug (Katie).
Oscar will also be sadly missed by his 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Michele and Tony Schimmel and their children Austin (Jackie) and Joshua. Michael and Janna Simmerson and their children, Camryn, Aidan and Kaelan. Charity (Mike) Krieger and their children, Addison and Emma Krieger. Curtis Clark, Justin and Susie Clark, Tyler Clark, and Alexis Clark.
Oscar was particularly fond of and cherished his brother Roy. Roy was always a welcome part of all our family gatherings.
He was also honoured to consider Cheryl (Doug) Middlebrook and children David and Lucas as part of his immediate family.
Oscar was predeceased by his father and mother and more recently his brother, Albert.
Oscar had many skills, tinkering, welding, farming, story telling (his version), golf, playing guitar, singing, making up songs for literally everything, making something out of nothing and making the best of everything. If you know him at all you know that his most mastered skill was making you feel like you were the most important person in the room, with a wink or that adorable smile.
He was born to Tom and Anna Clark in Wilkie, Saskatchewan on July 25, 1932. He had 6 sisters and three brothers. He worked along side his dad in the sugar beet fields even at the tender age of 6. By the time he was twelve he handled the team of horses raking hay. Dad met my mom, the love of his life, in 1954 and married in 1957, starting an incredible 62 year journey of love and devotion. After selling the farm in Stanmore mom and dad moved to the farm in Rosebud in 1960. Dad farmed, raised hogs, fed calves and drove school bus. Dad drove the school bus for 34 years. He drove multi generations of family on that bus. He considers those that rode on his bus, part of his family and was always delighted to see them and catch up with a visit. Dad loved spending time in his shop building tractors, trailers and just about anything else with wheels. He was able to enjoy working in the shop well into his eighties. Shortly after retiring from driving the bus, mom and dad sold the Rosebud farm and retired along side the Red Deer River just outside of Drumheller. He took great pride building and maintaining the beautiful yard at the acreage.
How do we describe the most amazing man we knew? They say we “Live in the hearts we leave behind”. If this is the case, dad will live on forever.
Please join the family in a celebration of his life which will be held at the Alliance Church in Drumheller (670 7th Ave E Drumheller) at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 23, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Adriana “Janie” Scott, beloved wife of Bob Scott of Delia, passed away at the Foothills Hospital, Friday, September 13, 2019, at the age of 66. The two were married in 1972 and had 47 years together. Janie was a loving mother and grandmother to Cody, Joleen, Chance and Colby of Hanna, and to Michelle, Kayla, and Kelsey of Drumheller.
Janie was born in Creston, B.C., on September 30, 1952. She later moved to Calgary and when she married Bob they decided to reside in the Delia area to farm. Recently Janie had been living at the Hillview Lodge in Drumheller due to health issues.
Janie is survived by her husband Bob; son Cody (Joleen) and grandsons: Chance, and Colby; daughter in law: Michelle, and granddaughters: Kayla and Kelsey; sisters: Connie Lane, and Debbie (Rick) Cashman.
She was predeceased by her parents: Harry and Dorothy Raaÿmakers; and her oldest son Chad Scott.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Delia Community Hall on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers donations are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
