It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother.
Merilyn was born on October 16, 1949 to Milford William and Thea Piffer. She was the oldest of three children.
She grew up in Morrin and attended grade school there. She went on to attend high school and live in the dorm there.
She met the love of her life, Donny Dziatkewich, in 1967 and they were married in 1968.
They were blessed with two children, Jerry on April 27, 1970 and Tina on December 10, 1972.
As a family, they did many things together including Special Olympics for Tina.
After Tina grew up, she married Don James and gave Grandma two grandsons, Brian on July 31, 1995 and Dylan on October 23, 1998.
Merilyn was predeceased by Milford William Piffer, Thea Piffer and Tina James.
She is survived by son Jerry Dziatkewich of Cereal, AB; grandsons Brian James of Drumheller and Dylan James of Edmonton; brothers Harold Piffer and Wayne Piffer, both of Edmonton.
A celebration of Merilyn’s life was held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 627 - 6th Street East, Drumheller. Pastor Carlos Calderon officiating.

The family of Katie Zimmerman sadly announces her passing at the Drumheller Hospital at the age of 101 years. Katie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Carol (Barry) Keirle of Drumheller; her grandchildren: David (Bonnie) Keirle, Shelly (Greg) Polzin, Lisa (Trevor) Hawkins, and Michelle (Logan) Drydale; her great-grandchildren: Justin (Jennifer) Groeneveld, Tyson (Monique) Groeneveld, Michael Lowey, Kimberly Polzin, Chase (Paige) Drydale, Colten (Sarah) Drydale, and Reese Drydale; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband David Zimmerman; brothers Robert and Gordon Bender; and sisters Sarah Brown, Pearl Solberg, and Irene Deckert. Katie had a love of horses, gardening, sewing Barbie doll clothes, and making handmade quilts for her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If so desired, donations in Katie’s memory may be made to

Herbert Neilson, of Carbon, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the age of 75.
Herbert was raised in the Olds, Alberta area and graduated from Olds College with a degree in Agriculture. He farmed in the Rockyford area where he built his home and raised his family. Herb took his young family on many camping trips and holidays. He was very proud of his children and passionate about farming. Budding from his time in the air cadets, he had a lifelong interest in aircraft. Herb enjoyed sports and watching his kids and grandkids play as well.
Herb is survived by the mother of his children Valerie; his sons Eric (Bridget) and Roger; and his daughter Leslie (Ben). He is remembered by his adoring grandchildren, Jack, Emily, Ivor and Elsie. Herb will be fondly missed by his siblings Sheryl, Allan, Randall, Mary Ellen and Michelle. He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Catherine Neilson.
A casual service and reception will be held at the Carbon Community Centre, (718 Glengarry Street, Carbon, Alberta) on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, all donations will be forwarded to the Village of Carbon Centennial Pool. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here. The family is thankful for support from friends, family and neighbours.
