EDWARDS, James (Jim)

Jim Edwards, 85, of Drumheller, passed away the evening of Tuesday, June 7, surrounded by family.  Jim was born in the Horseshoe Canyon/Hesketh area and attended the East Marne School (uphill, both ways).  He lived on, and worked, the family farm.  In the early fifties, he attended the Olds School of Agriculture and was well-known as “Uncle Jim”, “Big Jim”, and “Jolly Jim”.  He married Geraldine Ritchie in 1958 and started a family in the Pope Lease area.  In the mid-60s he left the farm and worked at E. O. Parry’s, the Elks Club, and Baesen Memorial, among many others - he loved to work with his hands.  His last years were at the Sunshine Lodge, where he spent a lot of time with old friends.  He was a loyal member of the Elks Lodge for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Gerrie; children Dean (Lori), Laurie, Pat (Mike), Peter, and Bob; his grandchildren Michelle (Ryan), Jasmine (David), Elizabeth (Richard), Katrina (Clint), James, Deonna, Myenna, Thereza, and Maia (Shane); and his great-grandchildren Natalie, Bailey, and Gavin.  He is also survived by his brother John (Lavinia) and sisters Shirley (George) and Phyllis.  He is predeceased by his son John; his parents William and Elvena; his brothers Craig, Earl, and Gordon; and sisters Evelyn and Gladys. The celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 18 from 1 – 4 in the Midland Hall; luncheon to follow.  Funeral arrangements by Courtney Winters Funeral Home. Donations can be made to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children.
