Margaret Joyce (Joy) Ferguson (nee Peers) passed away on June 1, 2011 at the Hanna Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Joy was born on May 18, 1937 in Alsask, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest of four children born to Fred and Irene Peers. She attended her schooling in Acadia Valley and later received her Nursing Aid degree at SAIT in Calgary in 1956.  Joy began dating the love of her life, Howard Ferguson, in 1954. All of the boys were born in Hanna with the exception of Scott, born September 18, 1969 in Wainwright. Howard and Joy had many moves throughout their married life, acquiring many lifelong friends along the way. After Howard’s retirement from the Canadian Wheat Board in 1994, they returned to Hanna to be closer to their family. Joy was involved with many activities with friends at their winter home in Arizona. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard, a lively game of cards and dancing with Howard.  Her parents, Fred and Irene, brother Keith and granddaughter Taylor predeceased Joy. She is survived by her husband, Howard, of 53 years, sons, Darcy (Tracy), Blaine, Jerry (Donalee) and Scott (Kathy), grandchildren Ryan, Amy, Kyle, Carissa, Adam, Jorden, Hunter & Tyler, brothers Larry (Lorraine), and Glen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Sunday June 5th at the Hanna United Church at 3:00 P.M., officiated by Leila Curry.
