GIBSON, Allen Vaughn
March 21, 1962 - May 28, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allen Vaughn Gibson of Drumheller, Alberta.  Following a lengthy illness, Allen passed away, with his family at his side, on Saturday May 28, 2011.  He will forever be missed and remembered by his brothers Larry (Betty Challand), Bill (Sheila), Jim (Wendy); sisters Marilyn Hay, Pat Stevenson (Tom); his aunt Doris Irving and his numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.  He will also be missed by his extended family at the Drumheller Bankview Residence and DARTS. Allen was predeceased by his loving mother and father, Bill and Edna Gibson, his grandparents William and Julia Gibson and Jim and Marie Snell and all of the Uncles, Aunts and Cousins who loved him so dearly. Allen was born in Three Hills, Alberta, the youngest of five siblings. He was an integral part of our family and he faced his many challenges in life with a strong determination and a remarkable spirit. His quiet presence and unconditional friendship and love greatly affected all individuals with whom he came in contact. His gentle and caring nature was a perpetual comfort for his family, friends and community. In his younger years, Allen was an ardent sportsman, winning many accolades and awards in the Special Olympics and bowling.  He also enjoyed skiing, swimming and playing pool. He was a passionate Calgary Flames Fan and faithfully supported the team through thick and thin. He had a deep appreciation for music and loved to dance, almost always being the last one to leave the floor. Allen was also a cowboy at heart. His enthusiasm and cheers at the Calgary Stampede were almost as strong as when he was watching the Calgary Flames…..almost as strong. Most of all, Allen loved not only life and people but every living thing. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes, often setting the bar by reminding us of our own good fortune. Little Al, you were and are our angel. The memories of the happy times that you gave us help ease the grief that we now feel. There will be a visitation for Allen at Courtney-Winters Funeral Chapel at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2011. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Courtney Winters Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Beskowine officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.  For those who wish, memorial donations may be made in the memory of Allen to DARTS, P.O. Box 1447, Drumheller, Alberta, T0J 0Y0 or Special Olympics Alberta, 11759 Groat Road, Edmonton Alberta, T5M 3K6 (www. Specialolympics.ab.ca/giving). Our sincere thanks to Dr. Maseka, the dedicated nursing and support staff at the Drumheller Health Centre and all of the wonderful and caring individuals at DARTS for taking such good care of our guy.
