EWING, Elaine Adele (nee Brock)

Elaine Adele Ewing (nee Brock) of Drumheller, AB passed away peacefully at the age of 62 years on February 10, 2011. Elaine was born in Sarnia, Ontario to Harrison and Shirley Brock. After the passing of her father when she was four, the family moved west and ultimately settled in Drumheller. It was here that she met and married her children’s father Richard Rowbottom and together they farmed in Hesketh. Richard and Elaine were together for 16 years. Elaine is survived by her children Joe (Lenore) Rowbottom, Cori Rowbottom, Jeff (LeeAnne) Rowbottom and her grandchildren Megan, Michael, Matthew, Jessica, Trent, Zachary and Emma. She is also survived by her loving brother Rick and his wife Sheila, step-brother Frank Semaka, Step-sisters Marian (Ed) Hildebrand and Margaret (Paul) Skytt and their families as well as other extended family and a great circle of friends. In 2001 Elaine met and married Fred Ewing and moved to Fred’s farm in Verdant Valley. Together they enjoyed companionship as well as each other’s families and friends. Elaine is survived by her husband Fred, stepchildren Roberta (Malcolm), Angie (Mark), Pam (Wayne), Darcy and their families. Elaine was predeceased by her father Harrison Brock, mother Shirley Semaka and step-father Alex Semaka. Elaine positively touched many people’s lives throughout her many careers, and always made and maintained close relationships with her coworkers. She especially enjoyed her time at the Sunshine Lodge. The residents and coworkers were like family to her and she really enjoyed the conversations and stories that were shared. Elaine’s great love was her children and their families. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who was protective, supportive and took great pride in all of their accomplishments. She really looked forward to Christmas concerts, music recitals, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball and basketball games and any other activity her family was involved with. Elaine was a very proud person and was the proudest when her family succeeded. Her children are fortunate to have her strength, work ethic and sharp wit to guide them through their lives. We also admire her ability to easily make friends and maintain lifelong friendships. Elaine approached the events of the last two months as she did everything in life - with honesty, tenacity and her amazing sense of humour. We are comforted that her battle with cancer was very brief and that she was able to pass away with grace and dignity. A celebration of Elaine’s life was held Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Elim Pentecostal Church in Drumheller, Pastor Dan Dannhauer officiating. Please direct any donations in Elaine’s honour to the Drumheller Health Centre - Palliative Care.
