MILLER, Otto

MILLER, Otto
September 13, 1930 - January 1, 2011

Otto passed away at the Drumheller Hospital at the age of 80 years. He is survived by four sisters; Cecile, Ella, Emma (Albert) and Vera (Jim) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Walter and Emil and sisters Lily, Hilda and Alma. Otto’s family immigrated from Romania to the Lone Butte area southeast of Hanna in 1927. Conditions were very difficult and in 1936 a move was made to Scapa, north of Hanna. Otto was a bachelor all his years, and grew up on the family farm helping his Dad, his brother Walter, and as an extra hand for neighbours until assuming responsibility for the home ranch. Over the years he spent much of his time tending to his cattle, visiting, and traveling near and far.  Japan, Australia/New Zealand, England, Arizona and BC were some of his destinations. At the start of the 90’s he sold the home place and moved to an acreage at Delia. He continued to enjoy rural life, often helping on the Mason farm. Otto liked to snowmobile, attend rodeos and auctions,  could often be seen out for a drive or at a community event (especially if pie was available) or having tea at the local store. He enjoyed many a home cooked meal with family and friends. Courtney-Winters is in care of arrangements. A memorial service is to be held Saturday, Jan 8 at 2:00 in the Delia United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delia Communities in Bloom.
