It is with great sadness the family of Bernard (Ben E. Naegeli wishes to announce his unexpected passing on April 24, 2009. Ben was born in drumheller on February 19, 1930 and raised in Midland. He married Jean Blanchett (Bailie) November 30, 1963. He began working in the mines at the early age of 16. Mine work was a difficult and dangerous line of work and Ben eventually decided to leave the mines and began a lifelong career in construction. Ben worked as a carpenter/foreman for Greene’s Construction for thirty-five years. He wwas extremely proud of all the projects they built throughout the province. Ben was a hard worker and well respected man in the construction industry. When Ben retired from Greene’s, he went to work for himself and continued to build in the Drumheller area, completing many projects with his sons. Ben had many talents and hobbies and a big family who loved him dearly. He was an avid gardener, well known for his great tomatoes and other vegetables that could be found at the Drumheller Farmer’s Market. Ben was a great handyman, who also liked to hunt, fish, camp and waterski and most recently, make wine. Curling was his passion and he and Jean enjoyed travelling to many of the large curling events throughout Western Canada. Everyone who knew Ben instantly liked him for his quirky sense of humour and storytelling ability. Ben was predeceased by his daughter Sherry, granddaughter Tina and brothers Frank, Jim, Victor, Donald, brother-in-law Jack, sister-in-law Iva and niece Carol. Ben is survived by his wife Jean, sons Curt (Dianne), Greg (Colleena), Kevin (shelley), Rick (Rhonda), son-in-law Dave (Mandy) and grandchildren Jennifer (Jono), Michelle (Barry), Michel (Amanda), Chris (Shannon), Erik, Matthew, Katie, Mary-Jean, Mitchell, Kacey, Trevor, Devon, Jody, David, and great-grandchildren Owen, Dylan, Joshua, Kaylee, Sami, and Macy, brothers and sisters, George, Gordon, Bob, Rita and Elsie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service to take place at the Know United Church in Drumheller on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon will follow at the Midland Community Hall. Donations can be made in memory of Ben to STARS or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.    17c
