After a lengthy struggle with diabetes, Mabel Darlene Marshall (nee Foye) passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at the Hanna Health Centre on April 3, 2009 at the age of 87.  Darlene was born September 23, 1921 in Drumheller, Alberta to Edward & Vera Foye.  Darlene, along with her brother Gordon was raised in Drumheller, Willow Creek and the Handhills, where her dad owned and operated coal mines.  Darlene attended school at Georgetown and later completed her grade 12 in Delia.  While growing up she was an avid baseball player playing the position of first base.  After graduating she worked as a telephone operator in Delia where she met the love of her life Ernest Marshall.  They were married on March 19, 1942 in Drumheller where they started their family.  In the spring of 1950 Darlene and Ernie moved to the family farm south of Craigmyle where Ernie took over from his dad.  They farmed until 1975 when they retired and moved to Delia.  Mom loved making spaghetti and meat balls for her family and friends, was a great cook and loved baking bread, cakes and pies.  She was a 4H leader, teaching sewing to the younger generation in the 60’s, along with Pauline Friedley & Doreen Richardson.  She was a beautiful seamstress, was always taking sewing courses & made beautiful clothes for her family.  She knitted, crocheted, canned fruit and vegetables, did macramé and sewed many beautiful quilts.  She won many ribbons at the fall fairs for her achievements and was very proud of her displays.  She loved camping, gardening, playing cards, golfing, and keeping busy at the Seniors Circle with her many Delia friends.  Mom and dad traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, England & many trips out to the west coast visiting relatives.  She also traveled to Europe with a friend & her sister-in-law Lily.   Mom worked at the Hanna Hospital as a hospital assistant from 1972 to 1986.  Her greatest pride came from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and lived life to the fullest, never wasting any of her precious time.  In 2005 mom and dad moved to the Hanna Lodge, and later in 2008 mom moved to the nursing home because of ill health. Mom is survived by her daughter Wendy Hannah (Jerry), 4 sons, Reg (Bernice), Ken (Linda), Terry (Rose) and Murray (Barb), 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; as well as 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Foye and Gladys Lewis; 1 brother-in-law Albert Marshall and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband   Ernie in 2005, brother Gordon and a      daughter Penny.  She was a terrific wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  We miss you dearly and you are forever in our hearts.  
Funeral Services were held at the Delia United Church on April 7 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Stiles officiating.  Interment followed at the Delia Cemetery.
