Gerrie Edwards passed away peacefully on February 20 with family at her side. She was born on March 25, 1935, and spent her young years in Michichi and Hanna, Alberta. Gerrie graduated from Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, working in the General Hospital, Health Unit, Drumheller Auxillary Hospital, and Drumheller Institution. Gerrie was married to Jim Edwards for 53 years, and together they had six children. She was pre-deceased by her parents (Fred and Edna Ritchie), brother Albert, son John, and husband Jim. Left to mourn are her children Dean (Lori), Laurie, Pat (Mike Jorgensen), Pete, and Bob; grandchildren Michelle (Ryan Doupe), Jasmine (David Stoesz), Elizabeth, Katrina (Clint Kornaga), James, Deonna, Myenna, Teri, Maia (Shane Mayea); and great-grandchildren Baby Doupe, Natalie, Grant, Bailey, Gavin, and Shace; as well as sisters Lorraine (Bud Moffatt) and Betty (Gary Raymond), brother Fred (Marie), and sisters-in-law Eleanor Ritchie, Clara Edwards, Phyllis Primrose and Shirley Hughes. Gerrie was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and a loyal, long-term member of the CWL. She loved to travel and was an avid knitter, crocheter, embroiderer, and quilter. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at the Drumheller Continuing Care Unit for taking such great care of Gerrie during her stay, as well as the staff at Rosehaven (Camrose). Gerrie’s funeral will be held at noon on March 22, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Drumheller. Luncheon will be held at St. Anthony’s Hall following the service.
