Mary Alice Wilson passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the age of 100 years. Alice was born and received her education in Grandview, Manitoba and moved to Alberta with her family in 1929. She married Arnold Wilson in 1933 and they farmed in the Churchill and Eckville Districts before settling on the Wilson family farm in Verdant Valley in 1940, where she raised her family, enjoyed gardening, helped with the farming and took part in community activities. In the mid 60’s Alice and Arnold bought a house in Drumheller and she opened a store and hair salon called Aldor’s Fashions and Arnold commuted to the farm every day. She was very active on the Drumheller Exhibition Committee, organizing the July 1st exhibition in the arena for many years, was one of the organizers of Dinosaur Days and was active at the Pioneer Trail Centre and sang with the Pioneer Trail Choir. In recent years she lived at Sunshine Lodge, Hillview Lodge and Drumheller Continuing Care and enjoyed time with the staff and other residents. She is survived by; her 4 sons and their wives, Carl (Mary Ellen) of Rimbey, Dale (Bev) and Jim (Toni) of Verdant Valley, and Lorne (Mary) of Sherwood Park, as well as 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, her sister Joy Bertsch-Bott. She was predeceased by; her parents Alvena and George French, husband Arnold, brother and sister-in-law Elwood and Alice French, sister and brother –in-law Merie and Verne Hopper and brother-in-law Walter Bertsch. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at The Knox United Church, Drumheller, with Harold Hunter officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Drumheller Health Foundation 351-9th Street NW Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1 or the charity of your choice. Courtney-Winters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Sunshine and Hillview Lodges and Continuing Care for their kindness, compassion and loving care while she was a resident.
