Viola (Hewson) Thompson of Drumheller passed away peacefully on January 9, 2014. She is lovingly survived by her five children: Nora Palmer of Drumheller, Linda Robertson (Mike) of Katy, Texas, Harry Hewson (Lynda) of Stettler, Willa Dumka (Don) of Calgary, and Julie Latter (Terry) of Calgary, as well as 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband’s: Marshall Hewson (1979) and Sam Thompson (2008). Viola Crouse was born September 9, 1917 in Richdale, Alberta and grew up in Craigmyle with her parents and two sisters, Lillian and Willa, all who have predeceased her. In 1939 she attended the Alberta Normal School in Calgary where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at Sentinel Hill School northwest of Delia where she met Marshall Hewson, a local farmer. They were married in 1941 and settled on the family farm where they raised 5 children. In 1975 they retired to Drumheller. After Marshall’s death she married Sam Thompson in 1980 and together they enjoyed travelling extensively. She was always in Eastern Star, both Delia and Drumheller United Church’s CGIT and activities in her communities. Viola loved to play cards, garden, sew and was still knitting mitts for everyone at age 95. She always loved to bake and entertain company, and she was a founding member of the Passion Play Choir. She was very proud of her children and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Knox United Church in Drumheller at 1:00 P.M.
