DAMMANN Orville John W. (Slim)

Slim passed away peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Saturday January 26th, 2013 at the age of 92 years. In August of 2006, Slim was predeceased by Anne, his loving wife of 62 years. He is survived by one daughter, Bev Dammann of Vernon; two sons, Dwight (Donna) of Campbell River, and Les (Terri) of Valemount, BC; four grandchildren: Derek (Julia), Dara, Mark (Lisa), and Jim; three great grandchildren: Alexander, Kendra, and Felix; two sisters, Minnie Elliott of Winnipeg, and Anne Cerretti of Beausejour, MB; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Slim was born in Ruthilda, SK where his father homesteaded. The family moved to  Moosehorn, SK and then Tyndall Mb. He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg  and was a Veteran of WW II, serving with the Canadian Provost Corps. After discharge, he joined the Canadian Penitentiary Service where he served in Stony Mountain, MB and Drumheller AB. He had been a resident of Vernon since 1979 and had volunteered with numerous community organizations including the Knights of Pythias. Slim loved music and will be fondly remembered by the many musicians he had played with over the years and by the many people who danced to his music. Slim’s service to Canada and his volunteerism earned him the Queens Silver Jubilee Medal in 1967 and his kindness influenced many that he came into contact with.
