Gordon, Robert Donald (Don)

Don Gordon of Trochu, Alberta passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Assisted Living in Trochu on January 6, 2013 at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Gordon, and four sons: Barry (Rhonda) of Calgary, Bruce of Calgary, Daryl (Gloria) of Calgary, Kevin (Cathy) of Trochu, as well as eleven grandchildren. Don is also survived by sisters-in-law Phyllis Bramley of Strathmore, Inez Gordon of Nanaimo, and Bonnie Gordon of Drumheller, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was born and raised on the family farm west of Carbon and received his schooling in the Carbon area. On May 18, 1949 he married Ruth King and farmed north of Carbon for four years. In 1954, they purchased a farm just north of Trochu and farmed there for 35 years while raising their family of four boys. They moved into Trochu in 1989 and have resided there till the present time. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Mary’s Assisted Living for the last four years of loving and dedicated care for Dad while he endured the effects of 21 years of living with Parkinson’s. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Paul’s United Church in Trochu at 2:00 pm, lunch followed in the Trochu Community Center.
