Walter “Wally” Robertson passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the age of 86 years, with his devoted family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Walter was born on May 8, 1926 in Toronto, ON., and will be forever loved by his wife Laura Robertson (nee Miller) of 67 years; three children Don Robertson ( and friend Sheila), Earl (Marion) Robertson, Tom (Jan) Robertson, brother Earl Robertson, Grandchildren: John Robertson (and friend Angele), Laura (Chris) Armstrong, Carla (Greg) Stout, Julie Robertson, Jennifer (Trevor) Alberts, Megan (Sean) Crawford; Great Grandchildren: Katherine Robertson( and friend Josh), Steven Robertson, David Robertson, Sarah Armstrong, Sean Armstrong, Liam Stout, Quin Stout, Casey Robertson, Maya Nestoriuk, Keaton Crawford, Kai Crawford and Soraya Crawford. Walter was predeceased by; his parents Walter and Loti Robertson, two sisters, Christina Sefton and Norma Cooper, one brother, Wilfred Robertson, and daughter-in-law Elaine Robertson. As a young boy Walter attended the Baptist Church and lived by the “Golden Rule” all his life. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944, where he served until the European Campaign ended in 1945. He didn’t hesitate to find his bride-to-be in Toronto, ON, and married Laura Miller on June 30, 1945. Walter completed his formal education at the Manitoba Institute of Technology attaining his diploma in Business Administration. Walter was employed, at the age of 21, as a 1st Class Guard at Stony Mountain Penitentiary and retired at Drumheller Institution as Assistant Warden Industries and Education in 1982. Walter was an active member in all community functions, especially the Royal Canadian Legion, where he was an executive member at the Stony Mountain Branch and became a Lifetime Legion member recently. Walter led a very active retired life, always helping family and friends and building specialty award winning wood furniture. The family will always remember Walter as dedicated to them and find pleasure in remembering his kindness and love to them throughout their lives. The family will be respecting Walter’s wishes by having a private family gathering at the Drumheller Cemetery, Friday, December 21, 2012.
