Marie Samuel passed away on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2012 at the Drumheller Hospital at the age of 90 years. Marie was born on the family farm, in the Markerville area west of Red Deer, on May 12, 1922 as the fifth of eight children. She was an integral part of the family farm, working alongside her parents and siblings. After high school, she worked in the local farm community for a few years, before heading to Calgary to attend nursing school.  After graduating from her training in October of 1947, she set her sights on working her way across Canada. In 1951, while working at the hospital in Drumheller, she met her husband of 50 years Tom Samuel.  Marie spent the next 61 years in the Drumheller valley, raising a family and then returning to her nursing career for several years before retiring. As an active member of the Royal Purple and the Eastern Star, she dedicated much of her time to community work.
Marie was predeceased by; her parents Louis and Petrea Thorsen; husband Tom; son Brinly; sisters Signe and Inga; brothers Erik and Louie.  Marie is survived by her children Bill (Hania); Jack (Sandra); Catherine and  David; as well as her grandchildren Julie (Ron); Jason (Julie); Jesse (Melissa); Jesse Brian (Meghan); Melissa; Rob (Alexis); Justin; Sam; Sarah (Chris); Meghan (Kyle); Caleb;  as well as 7 great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at the Drumheller Dialysis Clinic for their exceptional care and kindness over the years she received treatment there. A Memorial Service  will be held at Courtney-Winters Funeral Home  Wednesday, November  28, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Jerry Beskowine officiating.
