December 20, 2011

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and Nana; Jayne Viola, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the age of 73 years at the Drumheller Hospital.  She is lovingly remembered by her husband Harold of 52 years; her daughter Cheryl (Marty) Elkes; her son Blair; her 2 precious granddaughters Shelby and Brinley Elkes; her brother and sisters Bruce (Margaret-Ann), Margaret (Brian) Finn, Susan (Allan) Stewart, Marylou Anderson; brother and sister-in-laws Irene Sather, Helen Thompson, Mildred Anderson, Gerry Joa and Pat Joa as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  Jayne is predeceased by her mom and dad, Isabell and Sydney; her brother Ron; brother and sister-in-laws Art Joa, Norbert Joa, Marie Edwards, Ray Joa, Rita Edwards and Leonard Joa.  Jayne was born in Toronto and raised in Ottawa.  In the late 1950’s she moved to Red Deer, Alberta where she met Harold in 1958 and then started their family life together.  In 1968 they moved to Drumheller where she worked at Highway 9 Express and as a receptionist in the dental profession until her retirement in 2001.  Jayne was an avid sports enthusiast, whose passion was curling and in later years she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and travelling with Harold. But what she found most enjoyable was watching her granddaughters grow up and to be the pride and joy in her life.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 151 - 3 Street West, Drumheller on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 1:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers a donation in Jayne’s name may be made to the Lupus Society of Alberta, Suite 200, 1301 – 8 Street SW, Calgary, Alberta T2R 1B7 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 100, 119 – 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta  T2N 1Z6.  Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
