MONTGOMERY, Clara Elvira
January 14, 1923 - October 6, 2011

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Clara Montgomery.  Mom was born on a farm near Morrin to parents George and Mary Storch and passed away in Drumheller just short of her 89th birthday.  Mom was one of 11 children, she grew up on the farm, went to school at Hillsgreen (a one room schoolhouse), and later went to Olds College.  She married Vance Montgomery in 1947 and had 7 children who will always remember her love and unwavering devotion to them. Besides being a busy farm wife she was actively involved in her community belonging to many service groups.  She was a very generous giving person who went out of her way to welcome others into the community.  Gardening was a passion throughout her life.  As a horticultural judge many remembered and appreciated her comments while she was judging their yards and gardens.  She also made many visits to those who were ill in the hospital or nursing home. Clara was predeceased by her husband Vance in 1991.  In 2004 she had a massive stroke resulting in her moving to the Drumheller Hospital, Continuing Care.  Many remarked on her cheerful attitude and willingness to participate in activities. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.  She leaves behind, 6 children, Carol Dofher, Ellen (Laurence Dalke, Tom Montgomery, (Peggy), Pat (Donald Galbraith, Ron Montgomery (deceased), Bill (Laya) Montgomery, Teresa Stanton, 11 grandchildren, Angela Dalke, Amber Dalke, Bradley (Maricel) Dalke, Kevin Montgomery, Mike (Mona Lynn) Montgomery, Larissa (Mason) Maclem, Julie (Darren) Ryning, Damara Montgomery, Mariah Montgomery, Danielle (Desmond) Ball, Curtis Menzies, and two great grandchildren, Zachary and Kaedence Ball. A Celebration of Mom’s life was held Tuesday October 11, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. from the Morrin Community Hall, with Reverend Jan Richardson officiating, interment followed at the Morrin Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller Health Foundation, directed to the Recreational Therapy/ Continuing Care Program.  Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes were in care of the arrangements. The Montgomery family would like to thank the staff of the Drumheller Hospital and Dr. Olfert for all the wonderful care they provided for Mom.
